The disk is offline because of policy set by an administrator. You have just installed or cloned a VM with Windows 2. Enterprise or Datacenter or you have upgraded the VM to Virtual Hardware 7 and under Disk Management you get an error message saying the disk is offline because of policy set by an administrator. This is because, and this is by design, all virtual machine disk files VMDK are presented from Virtual hardware 7 the one of ESX 3. VMs as SAN disks. At the same time, and this is by design too, Microsoft has changed how SAN disks are handled by its Windows 2. Enterprise and Datacenter editions. Andre, I looked at that article and couldnt find any of those registy keys. I did find the leftover vmwareufadp2vXXXXX files in the CWindows directory and. In fact, on Windows Server 2. Enterprise and Windows Server 2. Datacenter and this is true for R2 too, the default SAN policy is now VDSSPOFFLINESHARED for all SAN disks except the boot disk. Having the policy set to Offline Shared means that your SAN disks will be simply offline on startup of your server and if your paging file is on one of this secondary disks it will be unavailable. Heres the solution to this annoying problem. What you have to do is first to query the current SAN policy from the command line with DISKPART and issue the following SAN commands DISKPART. EXEDISKPART san. SAN Policy Offline Shared Once you have verified that the applied policy is Offline Shared, you have two options to set the disk to Online. The first one is to log in to your system as an Administrator, click Computer Management Storage Disk Management, right click the disk and choose Online. No matter how you slice it, keeping some extra battery power on your person can do wonders to affect how you move through the world. If youd like to take some concentrated electricity around for emergencies, youve got two options The Contenders. Battery case No doubt youve seen a battery case before. This review is outdated now and some of my feelings and thoughts about this vape have changed. Check out my top picks for best portable vaporizer. to see which models. Its essentially a smartphone case with a built in battery and connector designed to stay on your phone 2. Many charge via Micro USB port and have visual indicators that let you know how much battery power is left inside. External battery pack Battery packs are external batteries that can charge more than your smartphone. Equipped with one or more USB ports, you can charge any mobile device as long as youve got the proper cable. External battery packs tend to carry more juice than their battery case counterparts, and are great for charging not only your phone but whatever wireless headphones or other small electronics youre toting. Both charge your devices, and both require charging themselves. But where one trades functionality for convenience, the other ditches the one size fits all approach in favor of a bespoke battery for your smartphone. External Battery Packs Functional, Friendly, and Multi Faceted. I carry around a battery pack with really short cables simply because I carry more than my smartphone. My Bluetooth headphones and my digital camera are always in my bag, but arent always removed when the batteries die. Thats where the external battery pack comes into play. A near infinite variety exist, from packs that will fit in your wallet to huge blocks that can charge your devices multiple times over before needing to see an outlet. Mine fits in the palm of my hand and can charge my phone at least twice. Battery packs usually charge via Micro USB cable, and feature one to two USB A ports. Depending on your needs, you should choose a battery pack with a proper amperage rating for charging larger electronics. Amp battery packs are great for charging i. Pads and tablets, and for charging smartphones more quickly than a slower 1 Amp charger. External battery packs can also turn you into a savior if youre around friends with dead phones. Ive charged devices for friends and family in less than ideal situations simply because I had my battery pack in my backpack. The functionality of an external battery pack comes at a cost. In short, you have to remember to charge it and bring the right cables. Unlike a battery case for your phone, which you most likely charge every evening next to your bed, an external battery pack just sits in your bag, patiently waiting for you to remember it exists. Usually that happens when its on its last legs, right before it becomes a hunk of useless lithium ion cells. Theres no worse feeling than pulling out your battery pack during a desperate situation only to find it dead as a doornail. Battery Cases Function Over Form. To ensure you have power no matter what you put in your bag, you should look into battery cases. Battery cases are more likely to stay charged because you need to plug in your battery case to charge your phone. When you plug it in every night, both your battery case and smartphone will charge and leave you with two fully charged devices. That convenience alone is worth considering buying a case over an external battery pack. It used to be that when I went out late in the city, Id play a rousing game of How long can IRead more Read. There is a downside since its always attached to your phone, youll be carrying a significantly larger device. Battery cases arent the sleekest accessories around. Even Apples own battery case for its i. Phones looks weird, and adds a rectangular, uneven hump to your i. Phones rear. The bigger the case, the harder it is to get in and out of pockets. When I experimented for a few months with a battery case I found myself occasionally pulling the case itself off my device because of my small pockets. Companies like Mophie are trying to split the difference with smartphone cases that can charge wirelessly when magnetically attached to external battery packs. But that means youll still need to carry an external battery. The Verdict Travel Light, Carry a Battery Case. So what should you carry around It depends on how many devices you have. If youre just carrying your phone around and want to be able to check your social feeds and communicate with friends no matter how long youre out, you should consider a battery case. Not only will it double your smartphones run time, itll protect your device from falls in case you drop it. Honestly, I think I might start carrying one of these again. If you carry multiple devices, like a phone, camera, and pair of wireless headphones, an external battery pack might be more functional. Youll have to carry some cables around but if youre already putting your electronics in your backpack or purse, why not throw in the battery pack, just in case. Youll only have to remember to charge it. Best Adobe Photoshop Tutorials of 2. Tutorials. The best Photoshop tutorials of 2. How to set up Zimbra mail server on Cent. OSIn this tutorial, we will examine the process of installing Zimbra mail server in Cent. OS Linux environment. Zimbra is my personal favorite when it comes to open source mail servers as it comes with a number of useful features such as built in calendar support, email filtering rules, a modern interface for both users and admins, spam and malware scanners, etc. Besides server side components, Zimbra also boasts of a full featured web based email client by which users can access emails, group calendars and document sharing in collaboration mode. Zimbra is available in two flavors an open source version and a commercial version. The latter comes with paid support plans and additional proprietary components for Outlook calendarcontact synchronization. But even the open source version alone provides pretty much all the features that an enterprise may need. Installing Zimbra is a straightforward process as we will see in this tutorial. We are going to use Cent. OS 7 more specifically AWS Cent. OS 7 image as the target platform to install Zimbra server. System Requirements for Zimbra Installation. The official website recommends the following hardware specification for Zimbra open source edition. IntelAMD 2. 0 GHz 6. CPU. A minimum of 8. GB of RAM for a single server installation. GB disk space for software and logs, and additional disk space for mail storage and temporary files. Preparing the DNS Records. Before we start doing anything with the mail server itself, it is essential that the DNS records for the mail server be in place. This is because the Zimbra installer will check the DNS records for your domain and will abort if the DNS is not resolvable. At the very minimum, you would need MX and A records for the mail server. For example. example. IN MX 1. 0 mail. IN A IP Address of your server. Configuring SELinux and Firewall. Before starting the installation, I have disabled SELinux. Tuning SELinux for Zimbra is beyond the scope of this article. Zimbra needs a number of ports opened in the firewall. I have used the following set of iptables rules as AWS Cent. OS 7 image comes pre built with iptables, but feel free to use firewalld the default firewall configuration tool for stock Cent. OS 7 to open all necessary Zimbra ports. Always double check that your firewall rules are in compliance with your organization policies. P INPUT DROP. iptables P OUTPUT ACCEPT. A INPUT i lo j ACCEPT. A INPUT s IP Address of your server3. ACCEPT. iptables A INPUT m state state ESTABLISHED,RELATED j ACCEPT. A INPUT p tcp dport 2. ACCEPT. iptables A INPUT p icmp j ACCEPT. Zimbra rules for external access. A INPUT p tcp dport 2. ACCEPT. iptables A INPUT p tcp dport 7. ACCEPT. Setting Hostnames and NTPNext, we will configure the hostname of the mail server. This will set Cent. OS hostname to mail. You can check the status by using the following command. Static hostname mail. In case you are using a cloud based VM e. Amazon AWS, you also need to change the file etccloudcloud. Add the following line at the end of the file. We also need to add the servers IP address and its fully qualified domain Name FQDN to etchosts. IP Address of your server mail. The NTP service must be installed and enabled on any server system where security and compliance is desired, and that includes Zimbra mail server. Accurate timestamp is also helpful for troubleshooting and testing with mail server logs. We will install and enable NTP as follows. Installing Zimbra on Cent. OSBefore installing Zimbra, we need to do some cleanup and install required dependencies. First of all, be aware that Zimbra comes with its own customized version of Postfix as a mail transfer agent MTA. So if your Cent. OS system has stock Postfix pre installed which is the case for Cent. OS 7, you need to remove it. Otherwise, Zimbra installer will fail when it tries to bind its own version of Postfix to port 2. Postfix. The best method is to stop the default Postfix service and remove it altogether, so that port 2. Also if sendmail MTA is installed on your Cent. OS, disable it as well. Next, install necessary dependencies with Yum. Now download the open source edition of Zimbra from their site, and extract the tar file. GAzcs 8. 6. 0GA1. RHEL76. 4. 2. 01. GA1. 15. 3. RHEL76. Accessing Zimbra Admin Console. Now that Zimbra is installed and running, we will use the web admin console to login. As the server is configured to use a self signed certificate, you might need to add that certificate as an exception on your web browser. The Zimbra admin console can be reached at URL https mail. Password password set during installation. Creating Test Users on Zimbra Server. After logging in to the server as an admin, create users who will send and receive emails using the Zimbra server. For this tutorial, we will create two users alphaexample. Users can be created under Manage section of the console. After new users have been created, we can log in as one of these users at https mail. Again, as the server has a self signed certificate, you might need to add the certificate as an exception in your browser. In the rest of the tutorial, I am going to test the Zimbra mail server using these users. Testing and Troubleshooting with Zimbra Mail Logs. When you test or troubleshoot the Zimbra mail server, the server logs are a useful source of information. While Zimbra logs can be inspected from the web based Zimbra admin console, the servers mail log file varlogmaillog contains more detailed information. I am old school and prefer checking the server log file directly. In the following let me show how to inspect the server log in various test scenarios. Scenario 1 Zimbra user sends an email to another Zimbra user. In this test, we first log in as user alpha, and try sending a test mail to user beta. After sending the mail, we can check the server log to see what went on under the hood. The following is a snippet of the mail log in this scenario. IP Address of your server.
